I love this so much! I definitely need to do this more.

You've inspired me 😊

I attended a retreat earlier this year where I practiced this, and it was such a restorative experience. Ever since I got back home, I've been wanting to do it for just 15 minutes (!!) a few times a week, but I've consistently been "unable to find time" to just sit and be.

Thanks for the gentle nudge . . . I'm going to take 15 minutes to do nothing tomorrow. (starting small, but Starting!)

So happy for you! I've also been "unable to find time" for the longest time but eventually just decided to start :) rooting for you, Noelle! Hope you have a great 15 minutes of nothing!

Unsolicited Update! Just finished a bit ago. After receiving some mildly irritating news, I was starting to overthink and spiral . . . but I stopped myself. I went outside and set the timer. Watched the breeze moving through the trees and the clouds drifting, listened to the birds chirping and leaves rustling. Totally reset my nervous system! 🤗

Aaaa so happy to read this update!! Thank you for letting us know, Noelle and doing it outside is such a great idea. I’ll do it outside next time 💙 and I’m really sorry for the bad news. Sending you strength 🤗

What a perfect example of metacognition (awareness of one's own thoughts and sensations) you explain here. It's actually very important for us to process stimuli and make sense of things, and not just go on autopilot. An anxious autopilot for instance, can be very painful. As you mention, social media is a barrier because instead of processing uncomfortable emotions, we do tend to scroll to avoid them ☺️

Thank you for reading through this experience, Mariel! I really appreciate your perspective on it, especially because you study it!! It feels like a validation and thus I’m going to continue doing it :)

I love creating space just to sit quietly and think. 💖

YES! I wish more "growth gurus" shared this practice instead of telling us to do more all the time!

Agreed!
